Ellen and I are RVers and we take our standard poodle Harper with us when traveling. Harper is on the front page of the March issue of Trailer Life and inside is a photo spread and story about traveling with large dogs in a small trailer.
The photos in the magazine were taken by Fred and Margie Buhler. Unfortunately the editors left off the photo credits. I will be asking the editors for a correction, as there would have been no article without Fred’s and Margie’s outstanding photos.
Note: Trailer Life has been going trough a rough transition from California to Minnesota and has been without a full time Editor for several months.

As this thread is about RV’s and pets, I have a story. Two associates we know had a middle grade diesel 34 foot pusher in which they traveled with 3 large dogs. The dogs were not well trained so over time they were pretty hard on the inside of the motor home. It reached the point where they wanted to do something about it so the had the inside redone with Granite flooring as they felt it would handle the dogs. They liked it a lot but then one day complained to my room mate that all of a sudden they were having a good deal of tire problems. My room mate knowing about the flooring upgrade knew what the problem was and explained that motor home tires are selected with little excess capacity and the new floor, while it looked great, was overloading the motor home.
Moral of the story, train your pets and you won’t have this problem.
Talking to Harper’s lifelong girlfriend Puna (floppy eared red Doby) the other day, she hoped that Harper wouldn’t let his head get too big now that he’s been featured on and in a prestigious national magazine. You know how envious women can get when their men go to get their hair done every couple of months, and she has yet to get hers done for the first time. Oh well.
George,
Very funny. Harper wants me to point out he is very loyal to his first love Puna. Said, he fights off those other lady dogs at the hair parlor.

My wife and I enjoyed your article on dogs and RVing. We have 2 Dobermans and a 24′ trailer. Almost everything you discussed we also have been doing altough it took awhile to get were we are now, but I don’t think we would enjoy camping as much as we do without our dogs. It was nice to see you had a good time in Salida (my parents and brother live there). Happy Trails.

Russ Replies: Bob, thanks for the post and the complement. We have been to Cour d alene a few times in our RV and enjoyed the experience. A great place to live if you can deal with the winter weather.
Damn – you and your dog are famous, just glad to say I know you
