Sustainable living at The Union not so sustainable

Russ Steele

This morning I was surfing The Union Web site when I checked out the Sustainable Living Blog, since sustainable living is a big local issue, especially in Nevada City. The last entry on the blog was in August of 2010. Yes, 2010.

Is everyone asleep over at The Union. Why post blogs that no one is using? Why waste the bandwidth and the valuable web space?

I think the only thing sustainable about all this local sustainability talk are the never ending work groups and public discussion forums that never seem to get beyond spouting platitudes and pabulum. Nothing sustainable is ever put forth or followed through. The only ones who appear vulnerable to their output are some low caliber electeds and planning commissioners – these we have to watch like a hawk, else we take another shot in the foot.
