County to Award Local Web Contract – Grass Valley Chose Colorado Firm

Russ Steele

I was looking at the BOS Agenda and spotted this resolution authorizing execution of contract with Shannon Pelline dba Sierra FoodWineArt  pertaining to the provision of maintenance services for the County’s Tourism website  www.GoNevadaCounty.com, in the maximum amount of $20,000, for the period October  25, 2011 through June 30, 2012.

From the Resolution:

Approve a $20,000 contract for website maintenance with Sierra FoodWineArt with Blue Cat Studio.

The contract with Sierra FoodWineArt with Blue Cat Studio is for the purpose of managing and maintaining the County’s tourism website, www.GoNevadaCount.~, which features the destination Nevada County brand and key messaging to promote the area. The website showcases primary visitor information including: accommodations, recreation, history, culture, and a calendar of special events. Services will include: back-end, integration and database services, tracking and reporting services, content management, editing services and moderation service for the website. The contractor will also develop strategies with County staff to promote syndication and avoid duplication of other county and regional tourism sites and assist in developing and recommending a sustainability model for GoNevadaCounty.com

You can read about Grass Valley contract to a Colorado firm HERE.  There was no information about who the other bidders were on the contact, if in fact there were other bidders. Congratulations to the County for using local business to support web site.

Also on in the same resolution:

Resolution authorizing execution of contract with Nevada County Economic Resource Council (NCERC) pertaining to the provision of economic development services, in the maximum amount of $40,000, for the period October 25, 2011 through June 30, 2012.

Resolution authorizing execution of contract with Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce  pertaining to partnering with the Town of Truckee and Truckee Downtown Merchants  Association (TDMA) for the Truckee Tomorrow – Creating Economic Prosperity Project for the provision of economic development activities for the Eastern County region, in the  maximum amount of $10,000, for the period October 25, 2011 through June 30, 2012.

Authorizing $50,000 to be designated for a competitive bid to solicit projects to promote tourism in Nevada County.

So, the County is going to spend $40K on the ERC and $70K($20+$50) on tourism development.  What troubles me is that the County is doing its own thing, Grass Valley it’s own thing, the Chamber doing their own thing, when it seem to me would get more value for our tax dollars if the County, Cities and Chambers were working together.  Your thoughts?

As we speak, this issue is creating large political fallout. Stay tuned…you may want to go to the meeting October 25th. I will definitely be there.

  2. Russ says:

Planning on being at the meeting. I heard that Jeff Ackerman is coming also, the meeting should be well covered by the regular and the alternative media.
