Frisch Call Your Office – Biofuel Production Increases CO2 Emissions

Russ Steele

The Sierra Business Council has been a promoter of biofuel production in the Sierra, including Nevada County as a green energy project.  How they will have to deal with reality, it is not green.

The largest and most comprehensive study yet done on the effect of biofuel production from West Coast forests has concluded that an emphasis on bioenergy would increase carbon dioxide emissions from these forests at least 14 percent, if the efficiency of such operations is optimal.

The findings are contrary to assumptions and some previous studies that suggest biofuels from this source would be carbon-neutral or even reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Russ, isn’t this study the latest in a growing list of studies that demonstrate current methods of producing biofuels is neither energy efficient, carbon-neutral, nor greenhouse gas reducing?? These facts were established fairly quickly after the biofuel production methods were laid down. They were, of course, denied by the progressives and probably will continue to be. Do you have any info on these latest results being recognized by anyone on the Left, at least in their existence?

  2. Dixon Cruickshank says:

Double Face Palm – although he will be here to defend HIS projects as better than any in the study.

The longer any of this goes on, as usual the worse it gets, that why they always are in a hurry to get it done. If not done quickly it becomes an epic fail. ie- Swine Flu what happened to that, other than we hurried up and wasted billions on vaccines that expired – does anybody even know anybody that got it?

  3. Bob says:

When considering this finding it should be kept in mind that the technical significance of “optimal efficiency” refers to a condition that generally is unobtainable due to the exclusion of extraneous factors not considered. In other words, a 14 percent increase would be best case pie-in-the-sky.

I would like to take this opportunity to request that all those of you that have and might consider supporting biofuel faculties in this county please keep this in mind when you evaluate the benefits and disadvantages of these facilities.

  4. Russ the SBC doesn’t actualy do anything but they sure can write a lot of opinions about any topic on earth. They were all for biomass plants until one was proposed for Tahoe.
