Climategate 2.0 | Watts Up With That?

Russ Steele

Anthony Watts has posted the breaking news, there has been another huge dump of e-mail similar to those in the first Climategate dump, history is repeating it self.

FOIA.org has produced an enormous zip file of 5,000 additional emails similar to those released two years ago in November 2009 and coined Climategate. There are almost 1/4 million additional emails locked behind a password, which the organization does not plan on releasing at this time.

ooo

It is still there. Some initial snippets floating around the blogosphere:

Bradley: I’m sure you agree–the Mann/Jones GRL paper was truly pathetic and should never have been published. I don’t want to be associated with that 2000 year“reconstruction”.

Mann: By the way, when is Tom C going to formally publish his roughly 1500 year reconstruction??? It would help the cause to be able to refer to that reconstruction as confirming Mann and Jones, etc.

Mann: They will see below allow us to provide some discussion of the synthetic example, referring to the J. Cimate paper which should be finally accepted upon submission of the revised final draft, so that should help the cause abit.

Mann: I gave up on Judith Curry a while ago. I don’t know what she think’s she’sdoing, but its not helping the cause

Jones: I’ve been told that IPCC is above national FOI Acts. One way to cover yourself and all those working in AR5 would be to delete all emails at the end of the process

Briffa: UEA does not hold the very vast majority of mine [potentially FOIable emails] anyway which I copied onto private storage after the completion of the IPCC task.

From the James Delingpole at The Telegraph

Breaking news: two years after the Climategate, a further batch of emails has been leaked onto the internet by a person – or persons – unknown. And as before, they show the “scientists” at the heart of the Man-Made Global Warming industry in a most unflattering light. Michael Mann, Phil Jones, Ben Santer, Tom Wigley, Kevin Trenberth, Keith Briffa – all your favourite Climategate characters are here, once again caught red-handed in a series of emails exaggerating the extent of Anthropogenic Global Warming, while privately admitting to one another that the evidence is nowhere near as a strong as they’d like it to be.

In other words, what these emails confirm is that the great man-made global warming scare is not about science but about political activism. This, it seems, is what motivated the whistleblower ‘FOIA 2011’ (or “thief”, as the usual suspects at RealClimate will no doubt prefer to tar him or her) to go public.

CLIMATEGATE II is going viral on the conservative blogs. Here is some comments from Power Line

Another batch of emails from the University of East Anglia–the same source as the original Climategate documents–has been leaked by FOIA.org. I haven’t had time to look at them yet, but various others have been sorting through them, and some preliminary findings are posted here, here and elsewhere.

Early returns suggest that these materials may be dynamite. For example:
Thorne: I also think the science is being manipulated to put a political spin on it which for all our sakes might not be too clever in the long run.

    And:

Wigley: Mike, The Figure you sent is very deceptive […] there have been a number of dishonest presentations of model results by individual authors and by IPCC […]

    One more:

Wils: [2007] What if climate change appears to be just mainly a multidecadal natural fluctuation? They’ll kill us probably […]

Much more to come, stay tuned. It is going to be a long Turkey Day Weekend reading through the Climategate II e-mails. Stay Tuned.

    Senator Inhofe comments on Climategate:

Washington, D.C. – Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, commented on the release today of additional emails by scientists contributing to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).  While the authenticity of the emails is yet to be confirmed by the University of East Anglia, according to the UK Guardian, Professor Michael Mann, author of the debunked hockey stick graph, said, “Well, they look like mine but I hardly see anything that appears damning at all, despite them having been taken out of context. I guess they had very little left to work with, having culled in the first round the emails that could most easily be taken out of context to try to make me look bad.”

“Even before the Climategate emails were released in 2009, the so-called ‘consensus’ peddled by the IPCC was already shattered,” Senator Inhofe said.  “Nevertheless, the Obama administration is moving full speed ahead to implement global warming regulations that will impose the largest tax increase in American history, significantly raise energy prices, and destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs.

“Remember, the Obama EPA is basing these regulations on its endangerment finding, which relies on the flawed science of the IPCC.  Now a recent report by the EPA Inspector General has revealed that EPA cut corners in the process leading up to the endangerment finding: it shows that EPA did not engage in the required record-keeping procedures or conduct an independent review of the science underpinning these costly regulations.  If the first Climategate scandal – and the over one hundred errors in the IPCC science that were revealed in its wake – were not enough, the apparent release of the Climategate 2.0 emails is just one more reason to halt the Obama EPA’s job killing global warming agenda.

“The crisis of confidence in the IPCC translates into a crisis of confidence in the EPA’s endangerment finding.  The IPCC science has already disintegrated under the weight of its own flaws, and I believe it will only be a matter of time before the endangerment finding follows suit.  It’s time for the Obama administration to stop trying to resurrect policies that are all pain for no gain, and get to work on reviving our economy.”
