Truckee Makes Top Ten Most Expensive Places to Live (edited)

Russ Steele

I was looking at the ACCRA Cost of Living Index and almost dropped my coffee on the keyboard when I read that Nevada County aka Truckee was number 9 on the Top Ten Most expensive places to live.

The ACCRA Cost of Living Index measures regional differences in the cost of consumer goods and services, excluding taxes and non-consumer expenditures, for professional and managerial households in the top income quintile. It is based on more than 90,000 prices covering 60 different items for which prices are collected quarterly by chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, and university applied economic centers in each participating urban area. Small differences should not be interpreted as showing a measurable difference.

The composite index is based on six component categories – housing, utilities, grocery items, transportation, health care and miscellaneous goods and services.

We missed the low cost to do business list, but made the high cost of living list.  We have our work cut our for us, how do we counter this kind of negative publicity?

Marin of the mountains…Sausalito of the Sierra…The Truckee area is the reason some can make the claim that Nevada County has gone purple. I’m no expert on Truckee politics, but I suspect that’s why potential supe candidate Rogers is so antagonistic toward the Sierra Business Council. Old guard versus new guard.

That begs the question. Is western Nevada County in the 100? If so, then maybe the rest of us should be acting as hoity-toity as our local left does.
