High-speed Rail Takes the Slow Train to Economic Disaster

Russ Steele

I was just watching the local NBC News Station KCRA-3 and they are reporting that the new plan for the high-speed rail is a “belnded” system. Let me explain, “blended means that you take high-speed rail from LA to Merced and then you take the slower CalTrain to Sacramento, or the Altamont Express to the Bay Area.

Yea, that should work out real well. Every mode change takes time and travelers hate mode changes as it eats time and crates another bag drag drill. No one will bother, they will just take the bus or drive. Or, better yet just take a direct flight from Bay Area or Sacramento to LA, or the reverse.  LA to Sac or LA to Bay Area.

The only good news is that instead of wasting $98 billion of tax payer money, it will only be $68 billion. But, that is only to build this boondoggle, the real cost will be the operation and maintenance of Arnold’s Choo Choo. If no one is riding this slow train to disaster, who is going to pay the operating costs?  The tax payers, or the CARB slush fund?  Regardless, it comes down to taxpayers footing the bill! Are you up for paying this government stupidity bill?
