Here is Why I Avoid Wikipedia as Much as Possible

Russ Steele

My first experiences with Wikipedia was when I was studying global warming. I tried to post some information from a peer reviewed paper which ran counter to the AGW argument, which was taken down by one of the AGW gatekeepers. You could only get the AGW side of the climate change story on Wiki.  I left in disgust.  It was only years later that specific gatekeeper was banned from Wiki.

Now we learn that Wikipedia Deleted President Obama’s New Marxist Campaign Slogan Link to Socialists.  Details from GodFatherPolitics.com

Update: Yesterday I began to write the article below in the early afternoon. The Wikipedia article where I got some of the information included “Forward (Obama-Biden Campaign Slogan)” and the use of “Forward” by numerous socialist and communist groups. The reference to “generic name of socialist publications” has been removed (PDF of original “Forward” Wikipedia page here. A BIG ‘thank you’ to loyal reader Ken for sending this to us). Now the Wiki article includes this message:

“This article is being considered for deletion in accordance with Wikipedia’s deletion policy.”

One of the liberal/progressive gatekeepers for Obama must have jumped in the fray.  Again, we are only getting one side of the story.  If “Forward” is a socialist slogan why would a good socialist want to hide the facts?

I find Wikipedia useful to get an idea where to start searching for information. The restriction in my searches is global warming and political searches are taken with a grain of salt. The best searches deal with hard facts where no opinion is involved. If it’s an important search, work through several pages of google or some other search engine because often the search engine has some bias in it as well. So much for the internet being the wild west. It has taken the form of spoon feeding you information unless you locate a web site without a bias in it.
As for why a socialist would like to hide the fact they are socialist, the progressive form comes from the name progressive. Baby steps pushing us in the direction they want. I suspect many progressives don’t even know what the end goal of the progressive movement is or that is an offshoot of the whole communist/marxist movement.
I find the left is very unaware of political history or the law of untended consequences but they want many thing that history has proven are destructive to the country that implements them. Those who fail to learn from history are bound to repeat it.

If a conservative uses the word “awake” does it mean they are a Nazi? Oh, I guess we will have to ask the witnesses!

    • Well SteveF, as a person in the tank ideologically and personally with Obama we would expect nothing less than a Nazi comparison. You are so boring man, but certainly predictable. I would think you would have suggested “moving on up” like Biden. You remember him telling the world in the 2008 primaries that he viewed Obama as,

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.” –Joe Biden, referring to Barack Obama at the beginning of the 2008 Democratic primary campaign, Jan. 31, 2007.

    • D. King says:

      Here Steve.

Here’s a nice little toe tapper from The National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nazi Party)

      Vorwärts! Forward!

      • stevefrisch says:

Hey, I din’t think any family pictures survived George’s trek across northern Europe to escape the communists!

  3. Barry Pruett says:

The word “Forward” in Russian was used by the old Soviets as they attmepted to “progress” (i.e. progressives). Even the drawings of Obama harken me back to the propaganda murals of Stalin and Lenin that I saw in Russia. The funny thing is…Obama and the progressives are not hiding it anymore. This is a good thing, as now we can have an honest debate.

MSNBC is claiming Obama lifted the slogan from their “Lean Forward” promos. (Wasn’t ‘lean forward’ the last thing said to Louis and Marie when they went to the guillotine?) If the Republicans stay true to form in doing the opposite of the Dems, I guess the Romney campaign will go with “Backward.”

If two kayakers are paddling forward off a waterfall, it is entirely approriate for one of them to call on the other to paddle backwards.

Mr. Frisch? Mr. Frisch? You still there? Mr. Frisch? Mr. Frisch? Are you all right, excuse me, are you all left?
Mr. Frisch, mein alte kamerad, I would like to share with you something I learned long ago at gone but not forgotten Nevada City High School: If you mess with the bull, you get the horns. I hope you recover soon, sir.

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But under the name of Liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without knowing how it happened.” Norman Thomas, Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944, 1948.

    • Dena says:

For the uninformed, a liberal used to be equal to a libertarian – as in Ron Paul. By early 1920’s the Progressive movement had been exposed and it was almost impossible for a progressive candidate to be elected to the office of Dog Catcher. They remained in the background in education but decided around the 1940’s to take another stab at public office. Memories were still fresh about the damage the progressives had done the first time around so they started using the clean name of Liberal which has now come to mean far left.
The meaning of Norman Thomas’s quote can’t be understood without that history.

  8. stevefrisch says:

Sieriously guys, for you to say that because two people use a common word they share a common philosophy is just flat out bonkers! Every one of you that subscribes to this is a lunatic.

    • Dena says:

The last true stage of human evolution was the development of language. With language they could communicate as one and work as one. When language breaks down the most common result is war. The only way to prevent that is for at least one party understand the difference in meaning.
Sometimes leaders change the meaning of words to cause wars. The most common word for that is propaganda.

      • stevefrisch says:

That is a very well stated point Dena. The word forward means “toward a place point or time in advance, ahead, toward the front”.” That is the common language usage that has sufficed for hundreds of years…..for the crew here to all of a sudden say “forward” means from each according to his ability and to each according to his need, or any other twisted meaning indicating it is “an offshoot of the whole communist/marxist movement”, is propaganda of the basest sort.

And Todd, don’t you realize the inherent hypocrisy of critiquing me for a Nazi analogy when you and your allies use the communist analogy time and time again? I used the analogy knowing your crew would object, and that your objection would only serve to point out your code of conduct to the lurkers here, who wisely chose not to post.

      • Funny how the socialist/communist/fascist deny a word means what it is intended to mean when it convenient. 1930’s Germany and the whole run of the Stalinists of Russia used similar worfs and phrases. Kind of like the phrase of two words, “seig heil” being denied for its meaning eh SteveF? You need to stop defensing the indefensible SteveF and admit your political bent is truly an extreme one. We here on these blogs are the true American mainstream thinkers and practitioners.

      • Dena says:

What can I say other than this

      • That is a great cartoon Dena!

  9. stevefrisch says:

A word means what its definition is, in historical and common usage. No more and no less. A poet may bend the word momentarily; a literary giant may expand the word with modification; but dimwits like you cannot change the definition….you cannot change a FACT, through the mere power of babble.

    • You need to read 1984 SteveF.

      • stevefrisch says:

Do you seriously think I have not read “1984”, Todd? Perhaps you should read this essay by George Orwell from his classic collection “Shooting and Elephant…”

        http://www.orwell.ru/library/essays/politics/english/e_polit

My favorite line is “break these rules rather than say anything barbarous.”

Perhaps as you contemplate Orwell you might actually think about the meaning of his works, and realize you are acting like big brother.

        Forward=Backward

In your case, perhaps a cigar really is not just a cigar!

      • I retained the message of 1984 which you apparently have not SteveF. You eco nuts have consistently redefined words to meet your goals of true world chaos (you are a fan of OWS. right?). Climate change from global warming comes to mind. Oh and climate disruption too. That is just one. You think you can remake the definitions without challenge but in this world of electronics, your are failing miserably. People know why others use words and they know the definitions which you now make fun of. “Forward” is a slogan and has a meaning and it is not its dictionary definition (like TIME magazine). The Washington Times article has explained this slogan term quite adequately and it was also explained on Lou Dobbs show a couple of days ago. But hey, keep licking those boots.

  10. Barry Pruett says:

“A word means what its definition is, in historical and common usage. No more and no less.” That is correct. Forward means “toward a place point or time in advance, ahead, toward the front.” Now the question is toward what…and the answer is provided by historical and common usage. Historically, the word “Forward” has been used as a rallying cry the likes of Lenin and Trotsky and comes directly from old Soviet ideology – moving forward beyond calitalism towards socialism.

As much as you criticize others for this same type of rhetoric, it is a dog-whistle for socialist, and I think that you know that but are attacking in order to deflect.

    • stevefrisch says:

Nonsense Barry…..for a man of your supposed intellect to go along with this bastardization of language, to imply that using a common word automatically associates it with how every other past user has used or misused, it is crazy. This is why you guys have no credibility anywhere but on a few blogs. People can see what you are doing.

What should everyone do now….forever eliminate the word forward from the English language…along with the words, awake, dawn, work, brother, international, world? How about the prepositions that Hitler, or Stalin, or Pol Pot, or Franco, or Allende once used? Can I now longer use their favored prepositions?

This is just nuts……as I attempt to point out on a recent post…..by linking seemingly disconnected things like the geography of birth and an historical event……don’t you guys get it…..there is NO connection.

      • Those darn common words, like, errrr, sustainability! Now SteveF, haven’t you taken that common word and turned its definition into a worldwide movement? Define that for us would you please. Or, planning. That words seems to mean something other than its dictionary definition regarding landuse. How about “workers” or “mob” or “the masses”? For a self proclaimed “smart guy”, you seem a bit dense.
